Qingdao University of Technology (QUT) women's basketball team dominated the first half of their match against Tongji University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women's Division I Basketball Tournament at the Shanghai Sports Center on Friday night.
The 6-foot-2 center from Beijing, Zhao Yanman scored a game-high 14 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers to a 75-59 victory over the Saints in the opening round of the tournament.
"We were able to dominate the first half," said Zhao, who led the team with nine points. "We got out to a good start and never let them get close."
Tongji University, meanwhile,Racing News Flash struggled to find its rhythm in the second half, going just 2-for-13 from the field. They trailed by as many as six points twice before Zhao's performance gave the Lady Tigers a comfortable win.
"Unfortunately we didn't have a strong third quarter," said Tongji coach Wang Jun. "Our defense was too weak."
Despite the loss, the Lady Tigers remain unbeaten in the tournament after defeating Tongji 23-10 last week. The team will continue playing tomorrow against Wuhan University.
In the other match-up, Shenyang High School defeated Jiangsu University 70-57 in the morning session. The Lady Tigers will face Nanyang Technological University in the afternoon session tomorrow.
